How to Plan an LED Video Wall

How do I calculate LED video wall size?

Start with the cabinet size and the number of cabinets wide and high. Most rental cabinets are 500 x 500 mm, so multiplying the count by the cabinet size gives the overall wall. For example, a wall 6 cabinets wide and 4 high is about 9.8 ft x 6.6 ft. The calculator above also returns the resolution, weight, and screen area so you can match the build to your venue and budget.

How do I choose pixel pitch and viewing distance?

Pixel pitch is the distance between LEDs, measured in millimeters. A smaller pitch packs in more pixels, so viewers can stand closer before they see individual dots. A useful rule of thumb is that the optimal viewing distance in meters is roughly the pitch in millimeters. For close-up stage and lobby work, choose a tighter pitch like 1.5 to 2.6 mm. For festivals and outdoor builds where the audience is farther back, 3.9 mm and up is more cost effective and bright enough for daylight.

How much power and rigging does an LED wall need?

Power scales with cabinet count and pitch. The calculator shows average and max draw, the amperage at your voltage, and the number of 20A circuits required. For control, LED walls are wired in data chains from a processor, so the tool also estimates the minimum data ports and how many cabinets fit on a single data run. Weights are cabinet only, so plan rigging and ground support with the total weight plus hardware in mind. Lumina handles the delivery, rigging, processing, and on-site crew for LED wall rentals across Los Angeles.

LED Video Wall Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate LED video wall size?

Multiply the cabinets wide and high by the cabinet size. Most rental cabinets are 500 x 500 mm, so a 6 x 4 wall is about 9.8 x 6.6 ft. The calculator also returns resolution, weight, and area.

What is the difference between rental and fixed install cabinets?

Rental cabinets are built for fast flown or ground-stacked setups and frequent moves. Fixed install cabinets are lighter-duty, front or rear serviceable, and built for permanent lobby, retail, and commercial displays. Use the Cabinet Type toggle to switch between them.

How much power does an LED wall need?

It depends on cabinet count and pitch. The calculator shows average and max draw in watts, amperage at your voltage, and the number of 20A circuits required. Real draw is usually closer to average than max.

What pixel pitch and viewing distance do I need?

Pixel pitch sets how close viewers can stand before pixels show. The optimal viewing distance in meters is roughly the pitch in millimeters. Lumina stocks pitches from 1.27 mm up.

Can Lumina deliver and install the wall?

Yes. Lumina handles LED video wall rental, fixed installs, delivery, rigging, processing, and on-site crew across Los Angeles. Send your spec above and we will come back with a quote.
